Can you shave a chihuahua?

Since the weather is really heating up here in Vegas & we have a new baby, I really can't stand to deal with 2 shedding dogs. Jason & I were talking about shaving them. But, can you shave a short-haired chihuahua? Do you think that would be awful? I just really can't stand hair on the sofa & on my floors. The lint roller just isn't cutting it anymore! What do you think...doable?

Our poor, neglected boo-boo's. I love them.

  1. I think you should totally shave them. That would drive me crazy with a baby.

  2. You can shave them, just don't let them outside for a long period of time because they'll sunburn. :) Also, they might be a little itchy at first. :)

  3. I would think you could shave them. But then again - I don't know. I have a lab that has a longish hair issue - so we shave her. John always threatens to use Nair on her though - that stuff for women's legs. UGH!

  4. Ya know... I'm not sure if shaving them would help a ton. I mean yes, it would get rid of a lot of the hair, but it'll grow back and I'm sure you'll still find hairs, only now it'll be little hairs that are even harder to pick up....

However; if you do shave them, I second the sun thing, be careful so they don't get a sunburn! :-) good luck!

We have two cats, with long hair and I know how frustrating it can be!

  6. ok..so our groomer told us that if you shave a short haired dog that it would make the shedding MUCH worse.
we only allow our dog in her room and no where else..and we are reallllly strict about her being anywhere near our baby or her toys..we're awful!

we take her to get something called the furminator..it is wonderful!

  7. I have no idea! I would ask a good groomer. I actually wouldn't hurt to ask a few. I bought a furminator for my dog and that seems to help with shedding.
